Empty cardboard cups can be sorted with paper-cardboard, on the condition that they do not contain anymore ornganic waste and that only one side of the cup is coverd with a shiny layer. This synthetic film layer is water resistant: water cannot reach the paper fibers. If the cup has a synthetic layer both on the outside as well as on the inside, the cup cannot go through the recycling process when pulp is being made. Therefore, these kind of cups go in the residual waste.
